This is not medical advice

HealthyKiwi is a publisher, not a healthcare provider. Everything on healthykiwi.com is general information and education. It is not medical, dietetic, psychological or clinical advice, it is not personalised to you, and it must not be used to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.

Always seek the advice of a qualified professional — a doctor, registered dietitian, or other licensed clinician — with any question about your health, your diet or a medical condition. Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read here.

In an emergency

If you think you are having a medical emergency, call your local emergency number immediately. Do not rely on this website.

Talk to a doctor first if…

Nutrition advice that is fine for a healthy adult can be inappropriate — occasionally dangerous — for someone else. Speak to a professional before changing your diet or taking a supplement if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • have diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, or a history of an eating disorder;
  • take prescription medication (many interact with food and supplements — for example, vitamin K with warfarin, grapefruit with several drug classes, iron and calcium with thyroid medication);
  • are managing a condition with a GLP-1 or other weight-loss medication;
  • are considering giving a supplement to a child.

Supplements

Supplements are loosely regulated in most countries. Doses, purity and contents vary and "natural" does not mean safe. We do not sell supplements, do not accept payment to recommend them, and where we discuss them we describe the evidence as we find it — including when it is weak.

Individual results

Nutrition research describes averages across populations. You are not an average. What works in a trial may not work for you, and nothing on this site is a promise of any specific outcome.

Advertising and affiliate disclosure

healthykiwi.com is funded by advertising and may contain affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never affects what we write. Advertisements are supplied by third parties and are not endorsed by us — the appearance of an ad for a supplement, diet or product is not a recommendation from HealthyKiwi.

Accuracy

Nutrition science changes. We review our articles and update them, but we cannot guarantee that everything is current at the moment you read it, and we accept no liability for any loss arising from reliance on this site.
